This seminar provides the basic tools needed for operating safe off-leash playgroups and dog daycare services. The Inside Scoop on Off-Leash Dog Play is a unique seminar combining classroom instruction, case studies and hands-on sessions with existing off-leash dog play groups. Course pre-requisite is reading, Off-Leash Dog Play: A Complete Guide to Safety and Fun by Robin Bennett and Susan Briggs.
Susan will open the seminar with a two hour review session of dog language and play behaviors in a classroom setting that includes video clips so you can see the principles from the book in action. The full day session will focus on key aspects to safe play management, an introduction to dog social screenings, setting policies, and factors to consider when assigning dogs and staff to playgroups. These concepts will be presented in the classroom, but the seminar also includes small group case studies and hands-on sessions with established dog play groups. The last half day session continues the introduction to social screening dogs for playgroups including the evaluation of a play group candidate dog.
